I can’t even write this without a tear in my eye.

Christopher Boykin AKA ‘Big Black’, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 45. The cause of death has not been confirmed, but sources close to him believe that it was a heart attack. He is survived by a 9 year old daughter.

Big Black was one of the funniest, kindest, and lovable characters to ever grace reality television. He starred on “Rob and Big” with longtime friend Rob Dyrdek, and his antics made for some of the best moments on the show.

The pair had a falling out for a few years when the show wrapped up, but eventually talked things out and Big reappeared into Rob’s life and viewers’ lives on “Fantasy Factory”

When Rob and Big was still on air, Big went around the country to Zumiez stores for meet and greets. The second we heard he was coming to the Freehold (NJ) Mall, there was no shot my boys and I were going to miss him. The line stretched half way down the mall, but luckily we had some other friends there to cut in with.

As we make our way into the store, we see this giant of a man sitting before us. Well actually, two giants since big brought along his buddy BamBam.

My one friend sits down between the two of them, looking like a French fry trapped between two boulders. They crack some jokes and treat him like one of their own. They snap a picture, and now it is my turn to meet the gents. After some daps and pounds, I take my seat and immediately feel smaller than I ever have in my life. I hand my phone to my friend, Big puts his 22 inch biceps around my back, and I crack a huge smile.

But, my friend could not figure out how to properly work my phone, and the people running the event were dicks, so I got rushed off before getting the chance to show my friend how to take the picture (this was before smartphones).

I was upset for a long time that I didn’t get to have that memory captured, but I will never forget that moment for as long as I live. There was no change from who he was on TV to who he was in real life. He was a genuine guy who made me feel like a friend, and not just some kid standing on line to meet him.

To the man with the world records for most bananas eaten in a minute and most powdered donuts eaten in three minutes, thank you for all of the laughs you provided throughout my teenage years.
